Fact #2: The Stock Market Was Born Before The United States
With the United States being the largest economy in the world, many believe that the stock market started in the country. However, that idea couldn’t be further from the truth.
The truth of the matter is that the first stock market launched in 1531 in Antwerp Belgium.
Nonetheless, with the inception of the first stock market taking place just 39 years after Columbus discovered America in 1492, the country was still in its infancy and nowhere near the superpower that it has become.
Going a little further, it was centuries before the United States got its first exchange. In fact, the first stock market in the United States didn’t launch until centuries later when the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) opened in 1817.
